COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team finished its two-match home weekend by falling to regionally-ranked Stonehill College, 9-0, on Sunday at the SMC Tennis Courts in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Purple Knights slipped to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the NE10, while the Skyhawks improve to 4-0 and 3-0. The Skyhawks are ranked sixth in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll and qualified for eight of the last nine NCAA Tournaments.
Junior Margaret de Pont (Norton, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and sophomore Abby Ramsay (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) won three games during their No. 1 doubles match, while the tandems of senior Amelia Weeks (Clinton, Wash./South Whidbey)/sophomore Caroline Sumner (Needham, Mass./Needham) and junior Katie Costa (Old Saybrook, Conn./Old Saybrook Senior)/first-year Melissa Wood (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) claimed one apiece at the No. 2 and 3 spot, respectively.
During singles, Ramsay nabbed one game in each set of a loss in the top position, de Pont and Wood clinched two games in their second set at No. 2 and 3, respectively, and Weeks suffered a 6-1, 6-3 setback during her defeat at No. 4.
The Purple Knights host American International College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
