Women's tennis falls to Le Moyne during home opener, Weeks claims first singles win

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team opened its home schedule with an 8-1 loss to Le Moyne College on Saturday at the SMC Tennis Courts. The Purple Knights are now 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Dolphins improved to 2-0 and 2-0.

Saint Michael's had its closest doubles decision in the second position, where junior Nicole Kellogg (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and sophomore Amelia Weeks (Clinton, Wash./South Whidbey) combined for an 8-5 setback. Weeks came up with the Purple Knights' lone point on the day when she nabbed a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles for the first singles win of her career in her first complete match.

Junior Colleen O'Keefe (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) lost a pair of narrow 6-4 sets at No. 4 singles, while senior Erica Bundrick (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision in the top spot. Le Moyne dropped only 10 combined games to the remaining three Purple Knights.

Saint Michael's hosts The College of Saint Rose on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Tarrant Recreation Center.
