Women's tennis blanks Saint Anselm to open three-match homestand

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team yielded a total of 18 games during a 9-0 victory over Saint Anselm College on Tuesday in the Tarrant Recreation Center. The Purple Knights opened a three-match homestand by improving to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Hawks are 0-6 and 0-6.

Junior Kayla Dowd (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and first-year Nicole Kellogg (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) won the most handily during doubles, 8-1 at No. 3, while junior captains Caroline Martin (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) and Caroline Toutoungi (Weston, Conn./Weston) earned an 8-2 triumph in the top spot. Sophomores Erica Bundrick (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) and Alexandra Sulkin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) claimed an 8-5 win at No. 2. Bundrick and Kellogg were both named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll earlier in the day on Tuesday.

In singles action, Kellogg blanked her opponent in the second spot, junior Hannah Benoit (Mystic, Conn./Saint Bernard School) won an 8-0 pro-set at No. 5, Bundrick was victorious 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, and Sulkin notched an 8-1 win at No. 6. Martin yielded two games in the fourth spot, while Toutoungi fought for a 7-6 (7-1) opening-set win at No. 3 before shutting out her foe during the second set.

The Purple Knights host regionally-ranked Merrimack College on Thursday at 3 p.m. The Warriors are ranked seventh in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll.
