COLCHESTER, Vt. - The regionally-ranked Saint Michael's College women's tennis team completed its regular season with a 9-0 victory over Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Sunday's Senior Day at the Tarrant Recreation Center. The Purple Knights, who are ranked eighth in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll, finish 11-4 overall and 10-2 in the league, while the Ravens end their season 4-10 and 2-10.
Saint Michael's will be the third seed in this year's NE-10 Championship and will play host to the sixth-seeded University of New Haven in the opening round on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Saint Michael's seniors Emily Magee (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) and Jean-Marie McGrath (Niwot, Colo./Alexander Dawson) captured an 8-3 win at the top doubles position, while classmate Alex Dalton (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) and sophomore Caroline Martin (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) took an 8-3 decision at No. 2. Sophomore Caroline Toutoungi (Weston, Conn./Weston) and first-year Erica Bundrick (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) won by an 8-1 count at the third doubles spot.
Magee earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 singles position, and Bundrick notched a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2. Dalton and sophomore Hannah Benoit (Mystic, Conn./Saint Bernard School) grabbed 6-0, 6-2 wins from the third and fourth slots, respectively, and McGrath won, 8-1, at No. 5. Martin blanked her opponent, taking an 8-0 decision at No. 6.
