COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team, which is ranked eighth in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region poll, picked up its third straight win by topping Bentley University, 8-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference match on Saturday at the Tarrant Recreation Center. After winning a match-up that featured two teams tied for third in the NE-10, the Purple Knights improve to 9-3 overall and 8-1 in the league, while the Falcons fall to 8-6 and 7-2.
Seniors Emily Magee (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) and Jean-Marie McGrath (Niwot, Colo./Alexander Dawson School) grabbed an 8-5 win in the top doubles spot for Saint Michael's, while classmate Alex Dalton (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) and sophomore Caroline Martin (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) earned a 9-7 victory at No. 2.
During singles play, Magee battled to a 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 win from the No. 1 position, and first-year Erica Bundrick (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) took a 7-5, 6-2 decision at No. 2. Dalton secured a 6-1, 6-3 victory from the third slot, while sophomore Hannah Benoit (Mystic, Conn./Saint Bernard School) won 6-0, 6-2 at the fourth singles spot. Sophomore Caroline Toutoungi (Weston, Conn./Weston) grabbed an 8-3 win at No. 5, and Martin captured an 8-1 decision at No. 6.
The Purple Knights are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Assumption College for a 3:30 p.m. match.
