KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College women's tennis team finished off its four-match Spring Break trip with a 9-0 loss to regionally-ranked Augustana (S.D.) College on Thursday at the Oak Street Park Community Center. The Purple Knights drop to 5-2 after the defeat, while the Vikings, who are ranked fifth in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region poll, improve to 12-2.
Purple Knight senior Alex Dalton (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) and sophomore Caroline Martin (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) fell to an 8-5 defeat in the second position against the doubles pairing of senior Hannah Gebauer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Lincoln) and first-year Jessa Richards (Eden Prairie, Minn./Minnetonka), which is ranked eighth among doubles tandems in the ITA's Central Region. Sophomore Caroline Toutoungi (Weston, Conn./Weston) and first-year Erica Bundrick (Mattituck, N.Y./Mattituck) also slipped to an 8-5 loss in their doubles match at No. 3.
Senior Emily Magee (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) suffered a 7-5 defeat in the opening set at the No. 1 position during a two-set loss to junior Katie Jesperson (Elk River, Minn./Elk River), who is ranked 19th among singles players in the Central Region. Dalton, sophomore Hannah Benoit (Mystic, Conn./Saint Bernard School) and Toutoungi each dropped a 6-4 decision during a straight-set loss from the third, fourth and fifth slots, respectively.
Saint Michael's returns to the northeast next Wednesday when it squares off against Merrimack College in a Northeast-10 Conference road match at 2 p.m.
