Penguin Plunge.   • Men's And Women's Soccer Teams Receive NSCAA Academic Award

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's and women's soccer teams earned a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award for the 2007-08 academic year, it was recently announced. Only 65 schools in the country had both their men's and women's soccer programs honored by the NSCAA, and Saint Michael's is the only Northeast-10 Conference school to have both soccer programs recognized.
  • Women's Soccer Trio Voted To Play In NEWISA Senior Bowl

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Three Saint Michael's College women's soccer seniors were selected to play in the 2008 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl, it was announced on Thursday. Fullback Kelley Boyden (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union), midfielder Sky Bryan (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) and forward Kelley Ruch (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock Union) were selected for the game, to be played on December 7 at 11 a.m. at Salem (Mass.) State College.
  • Bryan Named To NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College freshmen Teal Bryan (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) was named to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced Monday. Bryan registered a goal and two assists in the Purple Knights' regular season finale win. The freshmen was also named to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team.

Seniors Kelley Boyden (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union), at left, and Sky Bryan (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) landed on the All-Conference Second Team, while Ashleigh Adams (Milton, Vt./Milton) and Teal Bryan (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) earned All-Rookie Team honors.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s College women’s soccer team (8-8-2, 5-7-2 NE-10) defeated the Falcons of Bentley University (4-14-1, 2-11-1 NE-10) 4-3, on a wet and cold Tuesday afternoon on “Senior Day.” Senior Kelley Ruch (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock) notched the game-winning goal to lift the Purple Knights to victory. Saint Michael’s College had four seniors playing in their final game as a Purple Knight – Kelley Boyden (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union), Sky Bryan (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely), Kelley Ruch (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock), and Laura Anacone (Mansfield, Mass./Bishop Feehan).

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College sophomore Jenn Senecal (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced Monday. Senecal helped lead Saint Michael's to a 5-1 victory over Assumption College on Friday, scoring two goals. Senecal and the Purple Knights close out their season tomorrow at home on "Senior Day," at 3 p.m. against Bentley University on Duffy Field.

    WORCESTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team (7-8-2, 4-7-2 Northeast-10 Conference) erupted for five goals - the most the Purple Knights have scored since the season-opener - and cruised past Assumption College, 5-1, on Friday evening. Sophomore Jenn Senecal (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) scored twice as the Purple Knights pulled even with Assumption in the league standings. Saint Michael's closes out the regular season on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. home game versus Bentley College on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex.

Freshmen keeper Ashleigh Adams (Milton, Vt./Milton) stopped three shots in the loss. Saint Michael's returns to action on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. home contest versus the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

    Springfield, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team (6-7-1, 3-6-1 NE-10) shut out the Yellow Jackets of American International College (8-5-1, 3-5-1 NE-10) 2-0, Saturday afternoon at AIC Park. Freshmen Laura Ostrout's (Northfield, Vt./Northfield) score at the 15-minute mark proved to be the game-winning goal. The Purple Knights are back in action next Saturday, when they travel to league-rival Southern Connecticut State University at 5:30 p.m.

Merrimack connected on two first half goals, which was all they needed to preserve the shut out. Freshmen goalie Ashleigh Adams (Milton, Vt./Milton) set aside four shots in the loss. Saint Michael’s is next in action at home on Saturday, Oct. 4 when they play host to league-rival Stonehill College for a 1 p.m. start.

Ostrout and the Purple Knights are back in action tomorrow at home against NE-10 opponent Merrimack College at 3:30 p.m.

For the Purple Knights, freshman Laura Ostrout (Northfield, Vt./Northfield) gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 64th minute with her team-leading fourth goal of the season. Saint Michael's returns to action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. home game versus league-rival Merrimack College.

    RINDGE, N.H. - Saint Michael’s College scored a first half goal and held on in the second half to post a 1-0 victory over Franklin Pierce University, ranked 9th in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer action at Sodexo Field on Tuesday. Saint Michael’s freshman Teal Bryan (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) netted the lone goal of the match. The Purple Knights look to continue their winning ways on Saturday with a 12 p.m. contest at Le Moyne College.

The Chargers’ offense proved to be too much for the Purple Knights, who added a late goal which ended a four-game scoreless drought. Senior Kelley Boyden (Jericho, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union) scored her first goal of the season late in the second half. The Purple Knights are back in action on Sept. 23, when they travel down to take on Franklin Pierce University for a Northeast-10 Conference contest at 7 p.m.
  • Women's Soccer Team Raises Money For Lupus Foundation Of New England

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s College women’s soccer team will make a sizable donation to the Lupus Foundation of New England on Saturday, as the Purple Knights welcome local youth soccer players to the team’s 11 a.m. home game versus the University of New Haven. Prior to Saturday’s contest, Saint Michael’s – led by 10th-year head coach Marcel Choquette – will present a check for $800 to the Lupus Foundation of New England.

Classmates Ashleigh Adams (Milton, Vt./Milton) and Teal Bryan (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely), meanwhile, were named to the league honor roll, as Adams earned both victories in goal, and Bryan netted a combined three goals in the two shutouts.

In game one, Saint Michael’s (1-0) scored five goals in the first half to open up a commanding lead and cruise to victory. For the Purple Knights, sophomore Liz Freiberger (South Walpole, Mass./Walpole) scored the first two goals of the game. The DoubleTree Kick Off Classic concludes on Saturday, as Felician and Merrimack square off at 10 a.m., followed by Saint Michael’s and Molloy at 12 p.m.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's soccer team, led by 10th-year head coach marcel Choquette, is picked to finish 13th in the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on Wednesday. The Purple Knights are coming off of an 8-7-3 season in 2007, the program's first winning record since 2002, and open the season Aug. 29-30 by hosting the DoubleTree Kick Off Classic on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex.
