COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's basketball junior point guard Brianna Purcell (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, Feb. 10. She claimed her second accolade of the season.
Purcell averaged 19.0 points on 68.8 percent shooting with 3.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists to 2.5 turnovers, and 3.5 steals during a 2-0 week. She also shot 15-for-18 on free throws. Purcell totaled 18 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals in a 76-68 win over regionally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday, shooting 6-for-10 overall and 6-for-6 on freebies. During a 74-70 win at Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, she posted 20 points, one rebound, six assists and four steals while shooting 5-for-6 from the field and 9-of-12 at the charity stripe.
Purcell averages career highs in scoring (9.5), assists (5.3) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1) while shooting personal bests of 43.5 percent from the floor and 74.3 percent on free throws. Her 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals approach career highs she set last season. In her last 12 games, Purcell turned in 11.7 points - including six outings of 13 points or more - to go along with 68 assists and just 19 turnovers. She neared a triple-double on Feb. 2 in just 25 minutes against regionally-ranked Southern Connecticut State University, with nine points, 12 helpers and eight boards.
Purcell is third in the NE10 in assists, seventh in steals, eighth in assist-to-turnover ratio and 14th in free throw shooting. She stands third in the NCAA East Region in assists and fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio, as well as 20th nationally in assists.
Behind a recent 5-1 surge, the Purple Knights are 10-11 overall and 6-10 in NE10 play. They visit regionally-ranked Stonehill College on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The Skyhawks are seventh in this week's D2SIDA East Region Media Poll and qualified for last year's NCAA Tournament.
