Swimming & Diving Squads Open Home Slates with Losses to Le Moyne

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's and women's swimming & diving teams combined to claim five event victories while opening their home slates against Le Moyne College on Saturday in the Ross Sports Center natatorium. The Dolphin men and women won both meets, 165-111 and 167-104, respectively.

THE ACTION

  • Hopkins won the 100- (55.10) and 200-yard (2:04.50) backstroke races, placed second in the 50-yard freestyle, and led off for the runner-up 200-yard medley relay. He joined McGurn, Stewart and sophomore William Sullivan (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) in the quartet.
  • McGurn topped the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.74) field while taking second in the 100 breast.
  • Stewart won the 200 free (1:56.14) and sided with senior Aidan Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side), sophomore Nate Imbergamo (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and first-year Peter Middleton (Hingham, Mass./Thayer Academy) during a runner-up showing in the 200 free relay.
  • Mulderrig was second in the 100 free and 200-yard butterfly, with Sullivan third in the former while placing third in the 100 fly, 0.08 seconds ahead of junior Dan Fortier (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich).
  • Imbergamo took third in the 1,000 free, Middleton was third during the 200 back, and first-year Dennis Sullivan (Hudson Falls, N.Y./Hudson Falls) was second during the one-meter dive in his college debut.

THE ACTION

  • Giampietro won the 200 breast (2:37.44) while finishing as the runner-up in the 50 free and 100 breast. She anchored the third-place 200 medley relay foursome, swimming with senior Sarah White (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet Regional), junior Leah Benoit (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and first-year Bella Amedio (Schenectady, N.Y./Albany Academy for Girls).
  • White placed second in the 100 fly, 100 free and 200 fly races. Amedio claimed third during both the 100 and 200 breast events, including missing second place in the former by 0.06 seconds.
  • Senior Reiley Adelson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) was third in the 500 and 1,000 free races while joining junior Meg Geschwind (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and first-years Marisa Butzirus (Coronado, Calif./Coronado) and Emma Jane Tagliaferro (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) on the third-place 200 free relay.
  • Sophomore Tess Brown (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) nabbed third in the one-meter dive, coming within 2.33 points of second place.
  • Tagliaferro finished third in the 200 back, while Butzirus claimed third during both the 100 back and 100 fly, with Benoit 0.28 seconds outside the top three in the 100 back. Geschwind was 0.06 ticks away from third in the 200-yard individual medley.
