Gigandet, Hopkins, McNall and Thornton chosen for NE10 Weekly Honor Roll

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Four members of the Saint Michael's College swimming & diving programs landed Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll accolades for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 29. Sophomore Pat Thornton (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) and first-year Connor Hopkins (Windham, N.H./Windham) represented the men's squad, while senior Lindsay McNall (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) and junior Genevieve Gigandet (Groveland, Mass./Central Catholic) hailed from the women's team.

Thornton won three times during his team's 123-102 loss at Saint Lawrence University on Sunday. Thornton swam for the top 200-yard medley relay (1:46.91) while winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.07) and 500 free (5:11.52). Thornton led the Purple Knights with 10 individual victories during the regular season while tying for the top spot in combined triumphs (13). Both are career highs.

Hopkins led all NE10 first-years with three victories last week, each coming at Saint Lawrence. Hopkins swam for the top 200 medley relay while winning the 50 free (22.68) and 100 free (50.96) races. He has matched Thornton with a team-high 13 victories, nine of which were in solo events.

McNall won two events, including the 100th of her career, while narrowly missing a third during the Purple Knights' 115-93 loss to Saint Lawrence on Sunday. McNall led off for the winning 200 medley relay (1:58.19), as her opening-leg 50-yard backstroke (28.67) put Saint Michael's up by 2.24 seconds before the second swimmer entered the pool. McNall's milestone victory came in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.56), which she won by 4.83 seconds. During the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.69), she took second by 0.02 seconds. McNall's 25 total, 13 individual and 12 relay victories all pace the squad, with her relay figure a career high. Sixty six of her 100 wins were in individual races, while she joined 17 different partners for 34 relay triumphs.

Gigandet won her only one-meter diving event at Saint Lawrence, claiming 190.00 points, a career high for a non-championship meet. It was also the highest score by a Purple Knight in a non-championship diving event since Hannah Houley '11 recorded 227.25 in a one-meter dive on Nov. 13, 2010. Gigandet's career-high 11 victories tie for second on the team this winter after she totaled 12 triumphs as an underclassman. She also has the most diving victories by a Purple Knight since Jade Lubeck '13 won 14 events in 2009-10.

The men finished their dual-meet season 2-5, and the women were 5-3. The Purple Knights break until the season-ending, four-day NE10 Championship on Feb. 16-19 at Southern Connecticut State University.
