  • Trio Of SMC Swimmers Take Part In The Red Cross's 'Swim The Long Trail'

    WILLISTON, Vt. - A trio of Saint Michael's College swimmers - left to right, freshman Emily Dieter (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles North), sophomore Emma Hauser (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), and junior captain Kim Marchetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Fontbonne Academy) - took park in the "Swim The Long Trail" swim-a-thon on April 2. The event raised funds in support of the Vermont and New Hampshire Valley American Red Cross, and was held at the Sports & Fitness Edge.

Junior Eileen Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) capped a standout weekend by placing second in Sunday's women's 100-yard freestyle.

Junior Eileen Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) finished second in the women's 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:55.75, just .10 seconds behind the winner. The three-day championships conclude on Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

Junior Eileen Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) set a program record in the 50-yard freestyle to lead Saint Michael's, placing fourth in a time of 24.75. The three-day meet continues on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.

    WALTHAM, Mass. - Saint Michael's College senior Alex Stott (Plymouth, Mass./Sturgis Charter Public School) recorded an eighth-place finish in the men's one-meter dive on Saturday at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Diving Championships, hosted by Bentley University. The two-day diving action continues on Sunday with the three-meter dive beginning at 1 p.m.

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College men's and women's swimming and diving teams each finished in seventh place on Sunday at the three-day Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University. Junior Eileen Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) capped an impressive weekend by winning the 100-yard freestyle by .01 seconds, and earning an NCAA B qualifying time in the process. The Saint Michael's diving teams return to action next Saturday and Sunday at the NEISDA Championship at Bentley University.

Senior Hannah Houley (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) won both one-meter diving events to lead Saint Michael's, who competes in its final home meet of the season on Saturday, hosting Potsdam State University at 1 p.m.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s College swimming and diving team dropped its third consecutive meet, falling to Le Moyne in its third of five home meets in a row at the Ross Sports Center Pool on Wednesday. The men’s team lost by a score of 176-109, while the women suffered a 187-107 setback. For the women, sisters Eileen Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) and Julie Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) won a combined five events for the Purple Knights. The Purple Knights will look to snap their three-meet losing skid when they host Norwich next Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Mullowney and Healy were recognized for their individual efforts in the pool against Bentley and Saint Rose last week.

Junior Eileen Mullowney (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) had a dominant performance for the Purple Knight women, winning the 50, 100, and 200-yard freestyle races. Saint Michael's returns to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. home meet against the College of Saint Rose.

Junior Dan Healy (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) led the way with a second-place finish in the men's 100-yard backstroke, coming within a second of breaking a 15-year old program record. Saint Michael's returns to action on January 13 with a 3:30 p.m. meet versus Bentley, the first of five January home meets.

    NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College women's swimming and diving team earned a convincing 212-56 win at Norwich University on Wednesday evening, while the men fell to the Cadets, 169-121. Despite the loss, junior Nick Franks (Needham, Mass./Needham) swam well for the Purple Knight men, winning the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, and helping the team win the 200-yard freestyle relay. Saint Michael's returns to action December 4-5 at the Bentley University Invitational.

The men posted a 167-91 victory, while the women prevailed 177-77. Senior Aidan Warhall (New Haven, Conn. (Notre Dame HS)) earned three individual victories for the Saint Michael's men, in the 100-yard butterfly, the 200-yard butterfly, and the 200-yard individual medley. Saint Michael's returns to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. meet at Clarkson University.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – Eileen Hall, an assistant coach with the Saint Michael’s College men’s and women’s swimming and diving program last season and longtime club coach, has been named the head coach of both programs, it was announced today. Hall succeeds Jim Donoghue ’70, who retired last month after coaching both programs the last 12 seasons.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – Jim Donoghue ’70, the longest tenured head coach in the history of the Saint Michael’s College men’s and women’s swimming and diving program, has retired as coach of the Purple Knights, effective at the end of the month. Donoghue completed his 12th consecutive season as coach of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs in 2010. He also served as the men’s swimming and diving head coach for four seasons from 1984-87.
