  • McGrath, Sweeney Earn NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll Accolades

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Sophomores Tim McGrath and Sammy Sweeney were recognized to the Northeast-10 Weekly honor roll for their efforts at the NEISDA Swimming Championship, the conference announced on Tuesday. Sweeney lowered two of her program records in the 200-yard butterfly and in her third place finish in the 400-yard individual medley, while McGrath also bettered two program records in the 100-yard freestyle and in his fourth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle event.

Seven men's records were lowered, including three relay events, while a handful of women's marks were broken.

She was the top freshman, and led the Saint Michael's women to a fourth-place finish. In Wednesday's dual meet against Clarkson University, Stamas placed first in both one-meter dive events, earning 288.02 total points. The Purple Knights will host Norwich University on Tuesday in the Ross Sports Center Pool at 4 p.m. The meet will also be celebrated as the team's "Senior Day" in honor of their seven senior athletes.

The women defeated the Golden Knights 157-79, while the Saint Michael's men lost to Clarkson, 137-93. For the men, senior captain Jake Stamas (Andover, Mass./Andover) placed first in both of his one-meter dive events, earning a 288.02 total. McGrath finished first in the 100-yard freestyle event and helped the Purple Knights to a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay on Sunday against Bentley University. Cox helped earn the Purple Knight women points by finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle event.

Freshman Max O’Brien (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) and sophomore Kaytlyn Kelley (Jefferson, Mass./Wachusett Regional) earned honor roll accolades for their contributions to their Purple Knight teams at the Bentley Invitational this weekend. The Invitational was the final meet on the Purple Knight’s 2009 schedule. They will resume their season on Jan. 10, as they will challenge Bentley University in a dual meet at Bentley at 1 p.m.

O'Brien helped the men's team to a 154-134 win on Wednesday against Norwich University by placing first in both one-meter diving competitions, earning a total of 340.40 points. The Purple Knights return to the water on Dec. 5 in Waltham, Mass. at the Bentley Invitational.

On the women's side, Saint Michael's dropped a 67-55 decision to the host Greyhounds, and fell to Pace, 75-47. Saint Michael's returns to action on Sunday, as the Purple Knights host their first meet of the season versus Colby-Sawyer College at 1 p.m. in the Ross Sports Center Pool.
