CHARLEMONT, Mass./LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College Alpine and Nordic skiing teams finished just six points out of eighth place during a ninth-place showing at the Williams College Carnival, which came to an end on Saturday. The Purple Knights' 328 points narrowly trailed Saint Lawrence University's 334, thanks greatly to the Purple and Gold's men's Alpine squad placing fourth with 83 points themselves.
Alpine races occurred at Berkshire East Mountain Resort, while Nordic competitions were held at Lake Placid's Olympic Jumping Complex. The University of Vermont won with 992 points. Saturday was the only day the Nordic squads contributed to team point totals, as points based off of their final placements on Saturday were doubled.
First-year Danny Duffy (Warren, Vt./Green Mountain Valley School) had the best finish of his career during the slalom, tying for eighth with a two-run composite time of 2:01.43. Duffy, who was wearing the No. 35 bib, had the fastest second run among all competitors at 1:02.60 to rally from 23rd place after his first run. Classmate Guillaume Grand (La Plagne, France/Lycée Général Ferrié) placed 10th in 2:01.44, just 0.01 seconds behind Duffy, for his 10th top-10 finish in as many races this winter. Senior Kevin Krone (Copper Mountain, Colo./Summit) was 24th at 2:03.43, while classmate Brad Farrell (West Windsor, Vt./Sharon Academy) also finished among the top 30 to earn NCAA points, taking 27th.

Junior Abigail Hotaling (Fabius, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) took 32nd in 2:09.82 while wearing the No. 68 bib.

Competitors' final placements were based on their combined times from Friday's 10K freestyle and Saturday's 5K races. It was La Liberte's third top-40 finish this winter, all during the last three weeks. First-year Liam Schmelzle (Saint Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) was 47th overall at 42:05.3, and classmate Aaron Deeter (Truckee, Calif./Tahoe Truckee) took 55th in 43:00.8.
