STOWE, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College skiing teams finished a combined 12th among 16 institutions when the University of Vermont Carnival came to an end on Sunday with the second of two days of Nordic races at the Trapp Family Lodge. The Purple Knight Alpine and Nordic skiers totaled 228 points to come within 17 of 11th-place Bowdoin College. The hosts won the event with 857 points.
During the men's 10K freestyle, first-year Torin La Liberte (Madison, N.H./Kennett) clocked in at 28:21.7 to claim 41st place. Junior Isaiah St. Pierre (Charlestown, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) was 56th, and classmate Sam Hammond (Oakdale, Minn./North) took 58th.
The women competed in a 5K freestyle race, as junior Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) paced the Purple Knights in 53rd with a time of 17:12.4. Sophomore Elizabeth Cubberley (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) nabbed 57th in 19:05.7, and classmate Brianna McKinley (Moultonborough, N.H./Moultonborough Academy) was 0.5 seconds behind in 58th place.
Both the Saint Michael's Alpine and Nordic squads return to action this coming weekend, as the Dartmouth College Carnival begins on Friday at 9 a.m.
