LYME, N.H./CRAFTSBURY, Vt. - Saint Michael's College Alpine skiing senior Gabbi Hall (San Anselmo, Calif./Forest Charter School) and first-year Brad Farrell (West Windsor, Vt./Sharon Academy) broke into the top 20 in the giant slalom on Friday at the Dartmouth College Carnival.
Through one day of competition at the two-state, two-day meet, which is running its Alpine races at the Dartmouth Skiway and the Nordic events at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, the Purple Knights are 12th among 15 teams. Their 115 points are just two short of 10th-place Université Laval.
Farrell placed 14th in the men's giant slalom, cutting 6.91 seconds off of his opening run to claim a 2:03.01 two-run composite showing. First-year Cam Furrer (Wolcott, Vt./Mount Mansfield Winter Academy) was 39th in 2:07.62, cutting 6.68 ticks, while junior Carl-Oscar Bredengen (Oslo, Norway/Donski Alpine) placed 44th at 2:09.36. Bredengen was 7.06 seconds faster during his second trip down the mountain.
On the women's side, Hall was 19th at 2:10.58, trimming 7.0 seconds off of her initial run. First-year Nicole Cordingley (Litchfield, N.H./Campbell), who was the 77th starter in the event, moved into 40th by the end of the day, lopping off 8.71 seconds during her second run for a 2:15.29 combined performance.
In the women's Nordic 5K classic, each of the Purple Knights' top three finishers was within four placements and one minute of each other. Sophomore Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) clocked in at 20:38.3 before being followed by junior Silke Hynes (Burlington, Ontario/Milton District) and senior Katlyn Keane (Bethel, Maine/Telstar Regional). During the men's 10K classic, sophomore Isaiah St. Pierre (Charlestown, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) paced the squad at 37:14.2 before first-year Samuel Fogg (Rutland, Vt./Rutland) and sophomore Sam Hammond (Oakdale, Minn./North) were 28.3 seconds apart.
