STOWE, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College Nordic skiing team capped the Purple Knights' 10th-place showing among 16 institutions during the final day of the University of Vermont Carnival on Sunday. The Nordic squads raced at the Trapp Family Lodge after the Alpine skiers competed on Jan. 11-12. Saint Michael's ended with 249.5 points in a carnival won by the hosts, with 868 points.
Senior Katlyn Keane (Bethel, Maine/Telstar Regional) took 58th for the women in the 10K classic, posting the highest placement for a Purple and Gold women's Nordic racer this winter. She clocked in at 39:56.1. Sophomore Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and junior Silke Hynes (Burlington, Ontario/Milton District) were second and third, respectively, for Saint Michael's.
In the men's 10K classic, senior Colin Delaney (Lake Placid, N.Y./National Sports Academy) placed 56th in 31:17.8. Sophomores Isaiah St. Pierre (Charlestown, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional) and Sam Hammond (Oakdale, Minn./North) rounded out the Purple Knights' scorers as their next two finishers.
The Saint Michael's Alpine and Nordic skiing squads remain local for next weekend's Dartmouth College Carnival, which takes place on Friday and Saturday.
