DelGreco and Tierney draw NE-10 All-Conference laurels, Tierney nabs All-Rookie pick

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College softball senior Danielle DelGreco (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) and first-year Fallon Tierney (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) were both tabbed as Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference selections on Tuesday. DelGreco drew a second team nod as a designated player, while Tierney was named a third-team utility player as well as garnering an All-Rookie Team pick. This is the seventh time in program history that multiple Purple Knights have earned all-conference recognition, and the first since 2009.

DelGreco capped her college career with her initial all-conference selection. Starting 34 of the team's 37 games this season, DelGreco led the team in RBIs (14) and extra-base hits (9) while tying for first in doubles (8). Also a contributor in the outfield and at third base, she had personal bests in batting (.304), slugging (.413), hits (28), doubles and RBIs. She recorded eight multi-hit games, including 3-for-3 outings against Southern Connecticut State University on March 21 and against Assumption College on April 17. She had 16 hits in the team's final 15 games, batting .372 with nine RBIs and six doubles in that time, and striking out just once in her final 51 plate appearances. DelGreco finished her career tied for fourth in program history with 22 career doubles, matching Casey Brooks '07 and Sarah Murray '15. She also took 15th in both hits (93) and RBIs (36), edging Heather French '10 by one in both categories.

In addition to her third-team selection as a utility player, Tierney became the first player in program history to be named to the All-Rookie Team, which included 14 players this year. She started 35 times, including 18 behind the plate and 10 in the outfield. Tierney led the team in batting average (.311) and three-hit games (4), and tied for first in hits (32), becoming the first Purple Knight first-year to pace the squad in batting average since Casey Brooks '07 in 2004. Her hit total tied for sixth-highest ever among rookies. Tierney's eight multi-hit games matched DelGreco for second among Purple Knights. She collected eight hits during a four-game hitting streak from March 21 to 26, then knocked 10 hits in a six-game hitting streak between April 13 and 17. Tierney notched 3-for-3 performances against Bentley University on March 26, No. 25 Southern New Hampshire University on April 8 and Franklin Pierce University on April 19.

Saint Michael's ended the year on Saturday at 3-34 overall and 2-23 in the league.
