COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College softball team celebrated Senior Day on Sunday at Doc Jacobs Field with losses to Assumption College, 7-1, and Saint Anselm College, 14-0 in five innings. The Purple Knights are 3-26 overall and 2-17 in the Northeast-10 Conference, Assumption moved to 14-20 and 11-10, and Saint Anselm is 12-22 and 8-13.

She struck out three.
The Purple Knights threatened in each of the first two innings, during which they rapped out four hits, but were kept off the board. Senior Jenna Maksian (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) and Tierney both singled with one out in the first before moving no further, and DelGreco and senior Judi Barcavage (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) hit consecutive singles to start the second. After sophomore Hannah St. Don (Lakeville, Mass./Sacred Heart) sacrificed them up 60 feet, back-to-back groundouts ended the inning. Following Barcavage's hit, 17 of the final 21 Purple Knights were set down.
Clark doubled with one out in the third, but junior right fielder Caroline Staples (Stoughton, Mass./Fontbonne Academy) sent a relay throw to junior second baseman Christina Brazeau (Warwick, R.I./Saint Mary Academy-Bay View), who found Maksian at third base to cut down Clark. Assumption got on the board when Moniz scored on a two-out wild pitch in the fourth, and Mirabell hit a two-run home run in the fifth before Moniz was driven home with two down.
Clark added an RBI single in the sixth to make it 6-0, but Tierney led off the home half with a single and came home on DelGreco's two-out RBI double. Senior Christina Caira countered that with an RBI double in the seventh.
Staples was 1-for-1 with a walk against Saint Anselm, while Brazeau and Tierney both went 1-for-2, with Tierney legging out a double. During two stints in the circle, Brown allowed five runs - four earned - on seven hits in 3.1 innings. She struck out six and walked one.
First-year Jordan O'Connor led the Hawks with a 3-for-4 effort, scoring twice and driving in two while doubling, and senior Julie LeClair finished 2-for-4 with two runs, four RBIs and two home runs. Senior Pattie Turner was 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a homer. Four others had multiple hits. First-year Arika Brochu spun the three-hit shutout, walking one and striking out one.
LeClair hit a three-run home run with two out in the first inning, and the Purple Knights brought the tying run to the plate in the home half but were held scoreless. Brazeau led off with a single before Staples walked with two down, but a fly to the outfield ended the frame.
Sophomore Megan Murrell's RBI single brought around another run in the second, LeClair hit the first pitch of the third inning for a home run before O'Connor doubled in a two-out run, and the Hawks scored eight runs on eight hits and three errors in the fourth. Turner hit a two-run home run and senior Emily Crannell had a two-run single in the frame.
Tierney led off the Saint Michael's fourth with a double before moving to third on Staples' single, but a groundout was followed by a play during which the batter was retired on a groundout and Tierney was cut down at the plate trying to score.
Prior to the contests, Barcavage, DelGreco, Maksian and Jacqui Cronan (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) were honored during a Senior Day ceremony. The Purple Knights close out their home schedule by taking on Franklin Pierce University for a doubleheader on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
