    WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior goalkeeper Jason Burnett and senior midfielder Jared Berry were both selected to the 2010 New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) All-Star roster. Both players have had outstanding careers, contributing significantly to a 37-18-14 record over four years. Burnett and Berry both leave a lasting legacy, says Franklin. The two student-athletes will graduate later this month.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - For a second year in a row, Chris Poulin from Performance and Rehabilitation has agreed to provide strength and conditioning services to the Saint Michael's College men's soccer team. "Saint Michael's is very fortunate to be the beneficiary of the expert knowledge that Poulin Performance provides," says men's soccer head coach James Franklin. Poulin Performance will provide player testing, off-season and in-season functional movement-based strength training programs and customized cardiovascular programs using VO2max testing.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College senior Jared Berry (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) and junior Rondel Ward (Saint George, Barbados/Harrison College) were named to the 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Soccer All-Academic Team, it was announced on Thursday. The duo were two of 15 men's soccer players honored by the conference for academic excellence, and helped lead the Purple Knights to a 9-5-3 record in 2009.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College junior defender Blake Schill (Essex Junction, Vt./Worcester Academy) was named to the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Men's NCAA Division II All-East Region Third Team, it was announced on Monday. He started all but one contest for Saint Michael's in 2009, and finished tied for third on the squad with eight points (three goals, two assists). He helped lead Saint Michael's to a 9-5-3 record in 2009.
  • Berry Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American College Division Second Team

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Men’s soccer senior Jared Berry was named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American College Division Second Team, it was announced on Wednesday. As a captain, Berry led his team to a winning season, finishing 9-5-3 overall. From the midfield, Berry led the Purple Knights in all three categories, recording six goals and four assists to total 16 points on the season. Berry enters his senior year of college with a 3.84 Grade Point Average and will be graduating in May with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Garcia and Berry combined to score three of the four goals in Wednesdays shutout against Stonehill College.

Berry, who led the Purple Knights in scoring this fall and has a 3.84 GPA while majoring psychology, is now eligible for inclusion on the national Academic All-America team.

However, due to Bentley University's 1-0 overtime victory versus Saint Anselm College earlier today, Saint Michael's falls just short of qualify for the NE-10 Tournament.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Junior Rob Pierce (Charlotte, Vt./Champlain Valley Union/Westminster School) was recognized in the NE-10 men’s soccer weekly honor roll, the conference announced on Monday. Pierce scored two notable goals for the Purple Knights over the week. The first goal came within minutes of coming off the bench in the second half against Merrimack College to tie the game, 2-2, before being defeated by the Warriors, 4-2. Pierce’s second goal of the week was the game-winning point against the University of New Haven that kept the playoff hopes alive for Saint Michael’s.

With the win, Saint Michael’s keeps alive its chances of making the NE-10 Tournament.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s men’s soccer (7-5-3, 3-5-3 NE-10) was defeated 4-2 by the Merrimack Warriors (8-6-1, 6-5-0 NE-10) in a tough back-and-forth battle on Duffy Field on Tuesday. The Scanlon brothers teamed up three minutes into the game to put the Purple Knights on the board with freshman Steve Scanlon assisted junior Andrew Scanlon. Warriors tied the game at the end of the first half and notched another early in the second before junior Rob Pierce came off the bench and tied the game.

Gannon notched another assist on the game-winning goal in Saturday's contest against the Yellow Jackets.

Lessard came off the bench in the first half of Saturday's game to be the difference in the Purple Knight's 1-0 victory over American International College. Lessard scored his first collegiate goal against the Yellow Jackets, which turned out to be the game-winning goal.

The win put the Purple Knights in a tie for ninth place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings. Freshman Ben Lessard notched his first collegiate goal, scoring the game-winner in the 37th minute of the game, assisted by junior Ryan Gannon. Senior Jason Burnett recorded three saves in the game, marking his seventh shutout of the season.

    LOWELL, Mass. – The Purple Knights (6-4-3, 2-4-3 NE-10) demonstrated their overtime experience to UMass Lowell when they defeated the River Hawks, 2-1, with less than six minutes remaining in the second overtime. The Purple Knights took an early lead when junior Blake Schill earned his third goal of the season just five and a half minutes into the game. With less than six minutes remaining in the second overtime, Gannon capitalized on a failed corner kick clearance by the River Hawks and notched the game-winning goal.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Purple Knight’s men’s soccer team (5-4-3, 1-4-3 NE-10) fell to Southern New Hampshire University (11-1-1, 8-0-1 NE-10) on Duffy Field Saturday. The Penmen currently lead the Northeast-10 Conference and are ranked fifth nationally. Penmen senior Adrian Schippers scored the lone goal in the 60th minute of the game to overcome the Purple Knights. Junior Michael Adam assisted Schippers for his ninth goal of the season. Senior Jason Burnett recorded six saves in the contest.

Berry scored two goals on well-placed penalty kicks to tie the game against Bentley University on Wednesday, bringing the Purple Knights into their fourth consecutive overtime game. Saint Michael’s ended up tying the Falcons, 2-2 at the end of the contest. Berry now leads the team with 12 points (4 goals, 4 assists) going into their seventh week of the season.
