SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior Mark Yetter (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery/Delaware) scored his 100th career point as one of 12 Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse players with a goal during a 21-9 victory over American International College at Abdow Field on Saturday. The Purple Knights improved to 4-9 overall and 2-8 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Yellow Jackets are 0-14 and 0-11.
Junior Tim Connor (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and sophomore Brian Loughlin (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) both had six assists and eight points, each coming within one helper of a program record. Connor set career highs in both while Loughlin matched his personal bests. Yetter finished with two goals and four assists, first-year Cameron Jung (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) posted career highs of four goals and five points, and junior Andrew Colyer (Stowe, Vt./Stowe) notched his first college hat trick. Sophomore Matt Hanley (Plainview, N.Y./Bethpage) recorded six saves in the opening 19:28 for the win.
Senior Daegan Goodman (Montpelier, Vt./Montpelier) scored twice, classmate Jamie McGill (Needham, Mass./Needham) had a goal and an assist, and junior Taylor Wallace (Bedford, N.H./Bedford), sophomores Bobby Frank (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and Charlie Murphy (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury), and first-years James Aloisi (Nantucket, Mass./Nantucket) and Connor McGuirk (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) all tallied once. Aloisi's goal was his first as a collegian, and Frank added four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Johnny Karanasios (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) turned in career bests of six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
First-year Conor DiNatale (Needham, Mass./Needham) went 10-for-14 on faceoffs with five ground balls, and classmate Matt Cotter (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) had three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Senior T.J. Bicknell (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) totaled three saves and two caused turnovers in 10:32 of relief in net before sophomore Jake Sonberg (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) made five second-half stops.
Yetter pushed past the 100-point mark on a goal at 2:26 of the first quarter. He now has 105 points for his 42-game career, which included one year at Division I University of Delaware and two seasons at Saint Michael's. With the Purple and Gold, Yetter has 88 points in 27 contests, good for 24th in program history. During the day, Loughlin passed Bryan Barletto '03 (45) to take over 10th in school history with 50 career assists.
Junior Eric Overdahl scored four of AIC's goals, while first-year Andrew Brown added three. Senior Michael Palmieri was 15-for-31 on faceoffs with 10 ground balls, and junior John Magliano had nine saves in the opening 53:55.
The Purple Knights, playing their first game in a week, scored on all three of their man-up chances and assisted 18 of their 21 goals. Connor and Loughlin scored 56 seconds apart before Overdahl made it 2-1 at 10:04 of the first quarter, but the visitors netted 13 of the next 14 goals over a 19:26 stretch that ended with less than five minutes remaining in the opening half. Either Connor or Loughlin had a hand in each of the first nine Saint Michael's goals, and they had combined for 14 points by the time Murphy made it 17-3 43 seconds into the second half. AIC netted three goals in the closing 2:30 of the third quarter to begin a game-ending 5-2 run.
The Purple Knights complete their season next Saturday at The College of Saint Rose at 1 p.m.
