COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's lacrosse sophomore Brian Loughlin (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, March 13, landing his initial accolade of the season.
Loughlin had two hat tricks on six goals and collected five ground balls during an 0-2 week for Saint Michael's. In the Purple Knights' 20-6 season-opening loss at No. 3 Merrimack College last Tuesday, Loughlin potted three goals and scooped up one ground ball before netting three goals and grabbing four ground balls in a narrow 10-9 loss against regionally-regarded Franklin Pierce University on Saturday. Merrimack's ranking was according to last week's United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) poll, while Franklin Pierce had received votes toward the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) poll.
Loughlin, who registered eight goals all of last season, finds himself as this year's team leader with six tallies. A starter in 16 career games, Loughlin has 42 points on 14 goals and 28 assists, while racking up 35 ground balls.
At 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the league, the Purple Knights continue a challenging four-game stretch to open the season by heading to No. 8 New York Institute of Technology on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game. The Bears' national ranking is according to USILA, as three of the Purple and Gold's first four opponents this season will either be nationally ranked or receiving votes toward the USILA poll.
