Men's Ice Hockey To Host U.S. Men's National University Team On Tuesday

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College men's ice hockey team will host the 2011 U.S. Men's National University Team on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Cairns Arena in South Burlington. The game can be seen live over the Internet by visiting

The exhibition contest is the second of three games in Vermont that the U.S. Men's National University Team will play in a pre-tournament series preparing the squad for the 2011 Winter World University Games in Erzurum, Turkey, from January 27-February 6. The Vermont pre-tournament series was first announced by USA Hockey on October 27.

The U.S. will open its three-game Vermont series on December 27 with a 7 p.m. contest at Castleton State College. After taking on the Purple Knights on December 28, the U.S. will end its trip by playing at the University of Vermont on December 29 at 8 p.m.

The 2011 U.S. Men's National University Team features many of the top collegiate club ice hockey players in the country. Members of the team are from such institutions as Penn State University, the University of Illinois, the University of Oklahoma, and Iowa State University.

For Saint Michael's (4-3, 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference, 2-3 ECAC East), the exhibition game will be the Purple Knights' first contest since a 6-4 win at Franklin Pierce University on December 11. The game versus the U.S. Men's National University Team will also serve as a warm-up for the sixth annual Saint Michael's Holiday Tournament on January 1-2, as the Purple Knights will host Johnson & Wales University on January 1 at 4 p.m., and Morrisville State College on January 2 at 4 p.m.
