COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's basketball seniors Derek Cheatom (Buffalo, N.Y./The Park School of Buffalo) and Levi Holmes III (East Brunswick, N.J./Rutgers Prep) were both named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 13. Cheatom landed his fifth accolade of the season, while Holmes claimed his third.
Cheatom averaged 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks while shooting 48.4 percent during a 1-1 week. In an 70-64 win over The College of Saint Rose on Wednesday, he had 11 points, three rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks before turning in 25 points, four rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in a 73-65 loss at American International College on Saturday.
Cheatom averages career highs in scoring (17.1), rebounding (6.1), assists (2.1), offensive rebounding (1.1), steals (1.4) and blocks (0.9) while shooting 42.3 percent overall, including 35.7 percent from three-point range. Cheatom is an 81.8 percent free throw shooter, going 45-for-55 after a cumulative 57-for-76 (75.0%) effort his first three seasons combined. He is ninth in the NE10 in steals, 10th in scoring, 11th in blocks and 14th in free throw shooting. Cheatom is also 22nd in program history with 108 career three-pointers.
Holmes averaged 24.5 points behind 7-of-13 three-point shooting and 16-for-17 free throw shooting with 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists. Against Saint Rose, he collected 32 points, three rebounds, one assist and a steal while going 4-of-7 from deep and 12-of-12 at the charity stripe. In his eighth career 30-point game, Holmes joined BJ Robertson '06 as the only players in program history with two career games of successfully making at least 10 free throws without a miss. At AIC, Holmes scored 17 points with two assists while shooting 3-for-6 from three and 4-for-5 on freebies.
Holmes averages 21.2 points thanks to shooting 42.9 percent from three-point range and 90.8 percent on free throws. He adds a career-high 4.9 rebounds. During the week, he passed Matt Bonds '17 (1,523) and Ted Mauro '78 (1,548) to take over 12th in scoring in program history (1,553). Holmes is second in the NE10 in free throw percentage, and fifth in scoring and made threes per game (2.8), while standing second in the NCAA East Region in free throw shooting, seventh in threes per game, eighth in scoring and ninth in three-point percentage. Holmes is 20th in NCAA Division II in free throw success.
The Purple Knights, 5-9 overall and 2-7 in NE10 play, visit regionally-ranked University of New Haven on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game. The Chargers are sixth in this week's D2SIDA East Region Media Poll.
