COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's basketball senior Derek Cheatom (Buffalo, N.Y./The Park School of Buffalo) earned a Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll selection for the week ending on Sunday, Dec. 2, landing his second consecutive laurel.
Cheatom averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 0.5 steals during a 1-1 week. In an 82-81 overtime win at regionally-ranked Assumption College on Wednesday, he notched 22 points, six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal, shooting 6-of-7 on free throws. Cheatom turned in 14 points, five rebounds, two assists and a block in an 87-65 loss at regionally-ranked Bentley University on Saturday.
Cheatom turns in career highs nearly across the board, with 20.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.0 block, 42.9 percent field goal shooting, 2.0 three-pointers per contest, and an 86.0 percent free throw performance. He adds 1.0 steal and is 37-of-43 on freebies after going 57-for-76 in his first three seasons combined. Cheatom is fourth in the NE10 in made free throws per contest (5.3), seventh in scoring, 11th in free throw shooting and tied for 12th in rejections. He is ninth in the NCAA East Region in freebies per game.
The Purple and Gold, who are now 3-4 overall and 1-4 in the NE10, host regional power Saint Anselm College on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Hawks, who won last year's NE10 Championship before qualifying for their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament, were fourth in both of last week's national polls.
