COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's basketball seniors Derek Cheatom (Buffalo, N.Y./The Park School of Buffalo) and Levi Holmes III (East Brunswick, N.J./Rutgers Prep) were both named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, Nov. 11.
Cheatom averaged 23.5 points on 50.0 percent shooting, including 6-for-15 (40.0%) from three-point range, while also going 11-for-12 (91.7%) on free throws during his team's season-opening 2-0 weekend. He added 9.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.0 block and 1.0 steal. In a 105-97 overtime win against Concordia (N.Y.) College on Friday, Cheatom had 23 points, eight rebounds, a career-high seven assists, a block and a steal while shooting 8-of-16 overall, 3-for-8 from deep and 4-for-4 on freebies. He turned in 24 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, one block and a steal in a 93-88 win over Molloy (N.Y.) College on Saturday, hitting 7-of-14 from the field, 3-of-7 threes and 7-of-8 free throws. Cheatom is third in the NE10 in scoring, tied for third in rebounding and tied for fourth in assists and blocks.
Holmes averaged 31.0 points on 57.6 percent shooting, including 7-for-13 (53.8%) from three-point range, while also going 17-for-19 (89.5%) on free throws. He added 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.5 blocks. Against Concordia, Holmes had 25 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal while shooting 7-of-15 on field goals and 11-for-13 at the charity stripe. He totaled 37 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 32 minutes versus Molloy, connecting on 12-of-18 shots, including 7-of-10 threes, and going 6-for-6 on free throws. Holmes turned in his sixth career 30-point game with his highest point total in a contest that did not reach overtime.
Holmes leads the NCAA Division II East Region in scoring and field goals (19), is second in free throws (17), and is tied for second in threes (7). Holmes, who moved into 18th in program history in scoring (1,361) over the weekend, led the East in scoring, three-point shooting, threes per game and free throw percentage last winter, with his 24.1-point average the fifth-best in the history of the NE10, matching the best by a Purple Knight in 53 seasons. Holmes is sixth in school annals with 214 career three-pointers.
Now 2-0 for the first time since 2013-14, Saint Michael's opens NE10 play at regionally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The Penmen are seventh in the first D2SIDA East Region Media Poll.
