COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's basketball junior Matt Bonds (Accokeek, Md./North Point) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 24. Bonds, who earned NE-10 Player of the Week honors twice this month, was selected to the Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season.
While posting a pair of double-doubles, Bonds averaged 15.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, among them 2.0 offensive, 1.5 assists and 1.0 block during an 0-2 week. Bonds also shot 56.0 percent from the floor. He started the week with 18 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one block against Le Moyne College on Wednesday before totaling 12 points, 11 rebounds and one block against The College of Saint Rose on Saturday. Bonds has reached double figures in scoring 16 times in 17 games, while grabbing at least eight boards 16 times. He turns in career highs in scoring (16.1), rebounding (11.9), offensive boards (4.2) and assists (1.6).
Bonds leads the NE-10 in rebounding and offensive boards per game and is tied for first in Division II in double-doubles (13), sits second in overall rebounding, and is third in offensive rebounding. He leads the East Region in all three categories. He has the most double-doubles by a Purple Knight since Michel Bonebo '90 (17) in 1989-90. In Saturday's game, Bonds upped his career total to 662 rebounds to pass Brian Young '89 (657) and Bryan Duffy '91 (657) for 17th in program history. He is also third in the NE-10 in free throw attempts per game, tied for ninth in free throw makes per contest, and 12th in scoring.
At 3-14 overall and 1-11 in the league, Saint Michael's hosts its next two games, first taking on the University of New Haven on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
