Bonds claims second NE-10 Player of the Week laurel in three weeks

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's basketball junior Matt Bonds (Accokeek, Md./North Point) was named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 17, claiming the honor for the second time in three weeks.

In the Purple Knights' lone game last week, an 81-73 victory against Pace University on Tuesday, Bonds collected 21 points and 15 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the year. He pulled five offensive boards while shooting 7-of-12 from the floor and 7-of-8 on free throws. The performance was his third 20-point, 15-rebound contest of the winter. Bonds has reached double figures in scoring 14 times in 15 games while nabbing at least eight boards 14 times. He turns in career highs in scoring (16.2), rebounding (12.1), offensive boards (4.5) and assists (1.7).

Bonds not only leads the NE-10 in rebounding and offensive boards per game, but he paces Division II in offensive rebounding and is tied for first in double-doubles while standing second in overall rebounding. His 11 double-doubles tie for the fifth most by a Purple Knight since game rebounding statistics became available in 1981-82, and he has 19 for his career despite coming off the bench for the majority of his first two seasons. He is also second in the NE-10 in free throw attempts per game, sixth in free throw makes per contest, and 13th in scoring.

At 3-12 overall and 1-9 in the league, the Purple Knights continue a five-game run during which four contests occur at home by opposing Le Moyne College on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
