Boschetti earns men's basketball's annual Jerry Lanteri '76 Award

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's basketball senior Mauri Boschetti (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) was chosen as the recipient of this year's Jerry Lanteri '76 Award, head coach Josh Meyer announced on Monday. The accolade is given annually to an exemplary member or members of the men's basketball team.

To receive the award, chosen by a committee of former players and the men's basketball coaching staff, candidates must attain an esteemed academic stature, closely resemble the ideals of the true student-athlete, and be highly regarded by fellow students for his leadership qualities, both on and off the court.

"We are thrilled to present Mauri with the Jerry Lanteri Award," said Meyer. "Mauri has made significant contributions to the Saint Michael's men's basketball program, as well as to our College community. Mauri is a terrific teammate and leader who is always thinking of the people around him and making sacrifices which allow the team to be as good as it can be. His hard work, loyalty, dedication and spirit have played an integral role in the team's success during his career. Mauri has also excelled in the classroom and exemplifies the great personal qualities that Jerry Lanteri and this award stand for."

During his final two seasons, Boschetti helped the Purple Knights go a combined 36-20 overall and 25-17 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The 6-foot-3 guard helped mentor a trio of underclassman guards this season, as Saint Michael's was 18-11 and 12-9 while advancing to an NE-10 Championship semifinal for the first time in 14 years. Boschetti appeared in 22 career contests, including six as a senior, when he dropped in a basket on Dec. 21 against Wilmington (Del.) University and snagged a rebound during three minutes in a Senior Day start versus regionally-ranked Stonehill College on Feb. 7. A Dean's List student, Boschetti has qualified for the NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll three times due to academic excellence and will graduate with a degree in accounting.

The award is named after Jerry Lanteri, a 1976 honors graduate of Saint Michael's, and a member of the men's basketball team. Lanteri, a native of Southington, Conn., and standout student-athlete at Saint Paul's High School in Bristol, Conn., died on July 23, 1977, due to injuries resulting from a car accident.
