    COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College men’s basketball assistant coach Ari Shapiro-Miller has announced that junior Nate Birr (Burnsville, Minn./Saint Thomas Academy) is the recipient of the 2010 Jerry Lanteri Award, honoring an exemplary member of the Purple Knights’ men’s basketball squad annually. To receive the award, chosen by a committee of former players and the men’s basketball coaching staff, candidates must attain an esteemed academic stature, closely resemble the ideals of the true student-athlete, and be highly regarded by fellow students for his leadership qualities, both on and off the court.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Michael Harding, formerly the Associate Head Coach at NCAA Division II Stonehill College, has been named head coach of the Saint Michael’s College men’s basketball program. The announcement was made today by the College’s Director of Athletics, Geri Knortz. “I am thrilled to announce the hiring of Michael Harding,” said Knortz. “Saint Michael’s College is fortunate to have a strong and diverse talent pool to work with in this search, and I am confident that the College has made an excellent choice."

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's basketball standout Travis Warech (Pine Brook, N.J./Montville) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Rookie Team, it was announced on Friday. Warech is currently second among league first-years, and ninth overall, with 16.8 points per game. That total led the Purple Knights this season, and he also had a team-best 18 blocks and tied for the team lead with 26 steals.

Schilling was named the MVP at the Pace Holiday Classic. In the Purple Knights 2-1 week, Schilling averaged 19.7 points and 12 rebounds per game, shooting 25-of-31 from the field (.806).     COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College men’s basketball coach Tom O’Shea has announced that Kareem Amedu (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Purple Knights beginning in the fall of 2010. He is the first student-athlete from the Class of 2014 to commit to Saint Michael’s. A six-foot-five-inch, 200-pound forward, Amedu has helped lead Neuqua Valley – one of the top boy’s basketball teams in Illinois – to two straight sectional championships the last two years.
