    COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College men’s basketball coach Tom O’Shea has announced that senior Craig Carey (Franklin, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) is the recipient of the 2008 Jerry Lanteri Award, honoring an exemplary member of the Purple Knights’ men’s basketball squad annually. To receive the award, chosen by a committee of former players and the men’s basketball coaching staff, candidates must attain an esteemed academic stature, closely resemble the ideal of the true student-athlete, and be highly regarded by fellow students for his leadership qualities, both on and off the court.

    COLCHESTER, Vt.- Capping off an illustrious career, leading the Northeast-10 Conference in scoring (20.1 per game) and rebounding (9.7 per game) as a senior for the Saint Michael’s College men’s basketball team, senior forward Brian Monahan (Kinderhook, N.Y./Christian Brothers Acad.), received one of 64 invitations to the Collegiate Basketball Invitational in Wadsworth, Ohio from April 24-26. Monahan, who intends to travel to Ohio, will play in the all-star game on Saturday, April 26 at 8 p.m., live on ESPNU.

Monahan led the Northeast-10 Conference in scoring (20.1 points per game), rebounding (9.7 rebounds per contest), and minutes (38.4 minutes per game). Monahan was one of six named to the second team comprised of Merrimack sophomore guard Darren Duncan (Briarwood, NY), sophomore forwards Laurence Ekperigin (Cortlandt Manor, NY) of Le Moyne and Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia, PA) of Philadelphia University; Bentley sophomore guard Jason Westrol (Brielle, NJ), and senior forwards Vincent Falzone (Middle Village) of Molloy College.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College community mourns the passing of legendary men's basketball player Mark Fizulich '97, who died on Sunday morning at age 32 following his battle with leukemia. A four-time Northeast-10 All-Conference selection, Fizulich was inducted into the SMC Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.

Saint Michael’s closed out the regular season with an 8-18 overall record and 6-16 Northeast-10.
  • Sam Cieplicki To Join Men's Basketball Program In Fall

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College men’s basketball coach Tom O’Shea has announced that Sam Cieplicki (South Burlington, Vt./New Hampton School) has been accepted to Saint Michael’s College and will join the Purple Knights as a recruited walk-on beginning this fall. Cieplicki is part of the third generation of one of Vermont’s top basketball families, including grandfather Bernie Cieplicki '57, an SMC Hall of Famer, and uncle Bernie Cieplicki M'06, a former assistant coach with the Purple Knights and the College's Director of Athletic Facilities.

Despite cutting the lead to five in the second half, Saint Michael's fell 85-65, giving Bentley their 53rd-straight regular season contest, setting a new Division-II record.

The Purple Knights completed a season-sweep of the Owls having won on the road 85-79 on December 1, 2007.

Monahan averaged 22 points and seven boards and Sorrentine set the all-time mark for three-pointers made in a career (306) while averaging 18 points and connecting on 7-13 three-pointers against UMass Lowell to break the record formerly held by Todd Roberts ‘01.

In games versus Salem International and Northeast-10 rival Saint Rose, he scored 35 points off the bench in 43 minutes over the two contests. Against Salem International, Rodrigues connected for 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc. Versus Saint Rose, he scored 12 points on 5-10 shooting.
