COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's golf junior Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the cycle ending on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Johnson landed the accolade for the fourth time this fall.
Johnson tied for fourth out of 74 golfers at the Le Moyne College Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, carding a 2-under 70-72--142 to finish three strokes off the leader. He finished third among competitors from U.S. institutions and led all student-athletes on par-four holes, finishing 5-under, while tying for first with nine birdies.
Johnson, who had the highest tournament finish of his career, matched a career low with the 142 strokes, the fewest at a two-day tournament by a Purple Knight since at least the mid-1990s, when complete records became available. As a team, Saint Michael's was sixth among 12 schools, besting 2018 NCAA Championship qualifier Le Moyne while finishing only behind Canadian school Université Laval and four 2018 NCAA qualifiers.
Johnson, who broke 80 for the 29th and 30th times in his career, is tied for seventh in the NCAA East Region with a 74.2-stroke scoring average, having shot 72 or better six times in the last eight rounds. With the fall campaign complete, the Purple Knights return to action in the spring, with the schedule soon to be finalized.
