COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College men's golf junior Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the cycle ending on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Johnson landed the accolade for the third straight week.
Johnson tied for sixth with a historic two-round, two-over 72-70--142 on Monday and Tuesday at Southern New Hampshire University's Penmen Fall Invitational at Hanover (N.H.) Country Club. He tied his career-low round on day two while finishing with the lowest two-round total by a Purple Knight since at least the mid-1990s, when complete records became available.
Johnson, who broke 80 for the 24th and 25th times in his career, was four strokes short of the winner during the tournament and helped Saint Michael's tie 2018 NCAA Championship qualifiers Le Moyne College and Post University for eighth place out of 13 schools while besting Concordia (N.Y.) College, another NCAA participant last spring. As a team, the Purple and Gold broke 600 strokes (597) for the first time since at least the mid-1990s.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the NE10 Championship on En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott, N.Y. Tee time both days is 8 a.m.
