SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College men's golf team continued a run of five rounds in 11 days by completing play at Le Moyne College's two-day Mike Bello Invitational on Friday at the Bellevue Country Club. The Purple Knights finished 14th among 15 schools with 692 strokes, as their eight-shot improvement from day one to day two was the fifth-best of the tournament.
First-year Connor Morse (Westford, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) paced the Purple and Gold with an 11-over 82 on Friday, matching sophomore Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) for the team lead of 168 shots for the meet, as they tied for 66th overall. Morse dropped four shots between rounds, and junior Tucker Buteau (Gorham, Maine/Tilton School) trimmed three while tying for 73rd at 173. Sophomore Tim Donnelly (Lynn, Mass./Malden Catholic) was the Purple Knights' fourth scorer, at 186, while first-year Jack Maino (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) turned in a career-best round of 89.
The Purple Knights head to Newport, R.I., next Wednesday for the one-day Bentley University Newport National Classic.
