BREWSTER, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College men's golf team was 16th among 26 NCAA Division II and III programs following day one of the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship on Sunday at The Captains Golf Course. As a team, the Purple and Gold totaled 319 strokes, edging out Bates College by one. Day two of action begins on Monday at 8:30 a.m., as Saint Michael's wraps up the fall segment of its season.
Sophomore Matt Johnson (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) is tied for 25th overall and tied for 13th among Division II players with a 4-over 76, while junior Tucker Buteau (Gorham, Maine/Tilton School) is tied for 54th overall and tied for 22nd in D2 at 79. Classmate Colin Gaunt (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) shot an 81 to take 69th overall and 28th in D2, while junior David Boardman (Pelham, N.H./Pelham) and first-year Connor Morse (Westford, Mass./Kimball Union Academy) both carded an 83 for the opening round.
