COLCHESTER, Vt. - A veteran Saint Michael's College field hockey team, which brings back more than half of its starting lineup, including its entire goalkeeping corps, counts 19 returners from a squad that had one of its best defensive seasons in nearly two decades last season.

KEY DATES
The Purple Knights open the season at Southern Connecticut State University's Dora Metrelis Field Hockey Classic on Sept. 8-9, opposing Mansfield (Pa.) University on Day 1 and Shippensburg on Day 2 ... the Purple and Gold's first seven games include four opponents which qualified for the 2017 NCAA Tournament. After Shippensburg, Saint Michael's faces Saint Anselm College twice (road, Sept. 15; home, Oct. 3) and LIU Post (home, Sept. 29), the top seed entering last year's national championship ... the Purple and Gold opposes five teams ranked in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's (NFHCA) preseason national poll: No. 1 Shippensburg, No. 3 LIU Post, No. 6 Stonehill, No. 7 Saint Anselm and No. 9 Merrimack (home, Oct. 23) ... the Purple Knights close their regular season at NCAA qualifier Stonehill College on Nov. 10 ... with the addition of the University of New Haven bringing the NE10 to 14 squads, top eight teams in the league - up from six programs - begin postseason play on Nov. 13.
