COLCHESTER, Vt. - Seventeen rookies, including 16 first-years, figure to play key roles in changing the direction of the Saint Michael's College baseball program, which continues to challenge the top teams in the Northeast-10 Conference while looking to break through with its first postseason berth.

With four games under their belts, the Purple Knights begin an eight-game Spring Break trip to Fort Myers, Fla., on Sunday, continuing what is slated to be a 24-game road swing to begin the season prior to their initial home game ... Saint Michael's heads to The College of Saint Rose for its NE10 opener on March 24 ... the Purple and Gold starts its home schedule against Fisher College on April 2, kicking off a 17-game run during which 15 occur at Doc Jacobs Field, including 13 in a row at one point ... between April 4 and 8, Saint Michael's has five straight games against Southern New Hampshire, the University of New Haven and Southern Connecticut State University, three of the seven squads that competed in the 2017 NCAA East Regional Championship ... Southern New Hampshire is ninth in the latest Collegiate Baseball national poll, while New Haven is 16th ... Franklin Pierce University, which is receiving votes toward the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) national rankings, comes to Colchester for a three-game series on May 4-5 ... the top four teams in the NE10's two divisions head into the league championship beginning on May 8.
