COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College baseball junior Andrew Kelley (Lincoln, N.H./Lin-Wood) and sophomore Nick Nelson (Spofford, N.H./Keene) were named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, April 22.
During his only appearance of the week, Kelley struck out 10 while allowing one run over six innings during a 15-4 victory at Norwich University on Thursday. He allowed only two runners to reach third base.
Nelson batted .444, going 8-for-18 with four RBIs, two runs and a pair of doubles, reaching base at a .524 clip and slugging .556. He reached base in all five games, including recording hits in the first four. Nelson went 4-for-6 with two runs, three RBIs and a double at Norwich and was 1-for-2 with two walks at regionally-ranked University of Massachusetts at Lowell on Friday. During Saturday's twinbill with the River Hawks, Nelson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double in the opener and walked in the nightcap. He also singled against Saint Anselm College on Tuesday.
Kelley is tied for the team lead with seven starts on the mound, having fanned 29 batters in 38.1 innings. He has yielded three earned runs or fewer in five outings, picking up two wins. Despite missing much of the beginning of the season, Nelson has already set a career high with 14 hits in his 13 games, batting .326 to go along with eight RBIs. Since returning to the lineup on April 14, he is hitting a team-best .424, while his six RBIs in that span also led the squad.
The Purple Knights complete their slate by hosting the final eight games of the season. At 9-23 overall and 2-12 in the Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division, Saint Michael's entertains non-league opponent Middlebury College tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
