  • Baseball's Duprat, Ziskie To Pitch In NECBL For Vermont Mountaineers

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College baseball standouts Andrew Duprat (Fairfax, Vt./Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax), and Austin Ziskie (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase), at left, will pitch against some of the top collegiate players in the country this summer, as the Purple Knights have been named to the Vermont Mountaineers' roster of the elite New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). The Mountaineers are based out of Montpelier, and are 1-1 thus far this season.
  • Baseball's Fishman, McCarty Receive Tryout With Cape Cod League

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College baseball standouts Collin Fishman (Bethesda, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and Rob McCarty (Canton, Mass./Canton) both received a tryout on Monday with the prestigious Cape Cod League in Massachusetts. Neither player was signed by a Cape Cod League team for the summer, but Fishman (left) was picked up later on Monday by the Southern Maryland Nationals of the Cal Ripken Senior League.
  • Baseball's Estes Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College senior Pete Estes (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District Second Team, it was announced on Friday. Estes is one of just two NCAA Division II student-athletes recognized in the District I College Division, and currently has a 3.84 grade point average while majoring in journalism and mass communications.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - Wednesday's Saint Michael's College baseball doubleheader at Norwich University has been cancelled due to unplayable field conditions. The twinbill will not be made up. Saint Michael's ends its season with a 5-25 record, while Norwich finishes at 2-26.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (5-25) fell to Assumption College 10-5 and 12-4 in doubleheader action at Doc Jacobs Field on Sunday. The games were the final home contests for seniors Pete Estes (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union), Mike McDonough (East Hampton, Conn./East Hampton (Stetson)) and Ben Yodzio (Hingham, Mass./Hingham). Junior Tim McDonnell (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) had five hits on the day for the Purple Knights, who close the season with a doubleheader at Norwich on Wednesday.

    MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Saint Michael’s College baseball team (5-23) saw its losing streak reach double digits after losing at Middlebury College, 4-0 and 1-0, in an in-state doubleheader on Wednesday. Freshman Alec Tice (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) went 4-for-4 with a double between the two contests. The Purple Knights play their final two home dates of the season this week, beginning with a single game against Plattsburgh State University on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., and a doubleheader with Assumption College on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Sophomore Collin Fishman (Bethesda, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) took the hard-luck loss in the opener, allowing just one run while striking out eight in 7.1 innings pitched. Saint Michael's is back in action on Wednesday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Middlebury College.

    COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael’s College baseball team (5-19) dropped both games of a doubleheader against Saint Lawrence University, losing game one 10-5 before falling 7-1 in the nightcap on Doc Jacobs Field on Friday. Freshman Tyler Wild (Quaker Hill, Conn./Saint Bernard School) paced the offense with four hits on the day including a triple and two RBIs, and senior Ben Yodzio (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) had the hot bat in game one with a 3-for-4 performance. The Purple Knights play a rematch with Saint Lawrence tomorrow at 12 p.m.

The Purple Knights travel to Williams College tomorrow for a 4 p.m. contest.

Sophomore pitcher Andrew Kelley (Lincoln, N.H./Lin-Wood) tossed 7.1 innings and struck out 11 for the win, and sophomore right fielder Jacob Begnoche (Essex Jct., Vt./Essex (Univ. of Vermont)) gunned out a runner attempting to tag from third base in the bottom of the ninth to end the game. Junior Bryan Geary (Milton, Vt./Milton) had five hits on the day for the Purple Knights, who finish their string of 11 games in Florida tomorrow against Palm Beach Atlantic and Merrimack.

The Purple Knights couldn’t recover from a seven-run deficit after two innings and allowed 14 walks and 13 hits in the setback. For Saint Michael’s, freshman Alec Tice (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) suffered the loss on the mound, allowing nine runs on nine hits in four innings. Tice helped his own cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. The Purple Knights travel to Fort Pierce, Fla., tomorrow for a game against Mercy at 2 p.m.

Post in day three of Florida action on Tuesday. Sophomore pitcher Andrew Duprat (Fairfax, Vt./Bellows Free Academy-Fairfax) hurled a complete game shutout and freshman Nick Nelson (Spofford, N.H./Keene) knocked a three-run inside-the-park homer to lift Saint Michael’s to a program-best third win in Florida in the nightcap. The Purple Knights head to Nova Southeastern tomorrow for an under-the-lights contest at 6 p.m.

    LANTANA, Fla. – The Saint Michael’s College baseball team (2-1) earned one-run wins versus Saint Thomas Aquinas College, 3-2, and Nyack College, 4-3, on day two of its Florida trip on Monday. Sophomore Rob McCarty (Canton, Mass./Canton) recorded saves in both games and retired all seven batters he faced to help Saint Michael’s earn its first back-to-back wins since sweeping Lyndon State College on April 16, 2009. The Purple Knights return to action on Tuesday when they face Philadelphia University at 10:30 a.m. and C.W. Post at 2:30 p.m.

The first is a youth baseball clinic on January 29-30, and the second is a college prep exposure clinic on February 12-13.
