Baseball No-Hit By Nationally-Ranked Franklin Pierce, 11-0
LANTANA, Fla. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (0-2) couldn't overcome the right arm of Franklin Pierce University junior Jose Macias on Monday afternoon, as the nationally-ranked Ravens no-hit the Purple Knights, 11-0, at the Palm Beach (Fla.) Challenge and held at the Santaluces Final Sports Complex.
Senior Mike Robert (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) suffered the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs in 5.1 innings pitched. Freshman Collin Fishman (Bethesda, Md./Our Lady of Good Council) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for the Purple Knights.
Sophomore Mike Cracchiola (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Kellenburg Memorial) came closest to breaking up the no-hitter with a line drive out to left field. Macias finished with 12 strikeouts for Franklin Pierce (9-1), ranked 14th and 19th in the two NCAA Division II national polls, and first in the East region.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Tuesday with a 3 p.m. contest versus Saint Thomas (Fla.) University.
