  • Paul Morgan Named Saint Michael's Baseball Coach

    COLCHESTER, Vt. – Paul Morgan, an Essex Junction native and former standout shortstop at Williams College, has been named Head Coach of the Saint Michael’s College varsity baseball program, it was announced on Monday. Morgan is the 19th head coach in the program’s 96-year history, and only the third since the program was reinstituted as a varsity sport in 1990.

    LOWELL, Mass. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (11-25) dropped its final game of the season on Friday evening, falling at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, 8-3. Greg McLaughlin (Rutland, Vt./Rutland), one of eight seniors playing his final game for the Purple Knights, singled three times and scored a run in the setback.
  • One-Run Wins Earns Baseball Sweep Of Lyndon

    LYNDON CENTER, Vt. – Saint Michael's sophomore Kevin Wickles (Hatfield, Mass./Suffield Acad.) out-dueled Lyndon State’s Matthew Picard (Winooski, VT) for eight innings and came away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the opener of a doubleheader played at Skip Pound Field. The right-handed Wickles went the distance to get the win, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out eight and walking six. Picard, a junior lefty, tossed eight innings as well, giving up two earned runs on eight hits while fanning seven and walking two.
  • Baseball Drops Doubleheader To Amherst Despite Extra Inning Rally

    COLCHESTER, Vt.- The Saint Michael's College baseball team (9-24) and the Class of 2008 played their final home game at Doc Jacobs Field Sunday afternoon, dropping a pair to the Lord Jeffs of Amherst College (19-9-1) 11-0 in game one and 7-5 in eight innings in the nightcap. Junior captain Joe Gil (Andover, Mass./Andover) extended his hitting streak to seven games, including a single in the seventh as the pinch hitter.
  • Baseball Earns Split With Merrimack, 10-3, 8-6

    NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- In a homecoming doubleheader for junior Joe Gil (Andover, Mass./Andover), the captain catcher went 4-for-8 on the afternoon, batting in three runs in game two to lift the Purple Knights 8-6 past the Warriors. Sophomore pitcher Mike Robert (Wellesley, Mass./Babson) pitched a complete game two, winning his second decision of the year with four strike outs and only one walk.

    PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (8-21) dropped two games at SUNY Plattsburgh on Friday, falling in game one, 18-6, and in the nightcap, 6-0. Sophomore Kevin Wickles (Hatfield, Mass./Suffield Academy) suffered the hard-luck loss in game two, throwing five effective innings. Saint Michael's returns to action on Saturday with a 12 p.m. doubleheader at Merrimack College.

The Purple Knights won game one, 9-4, behind a complete game performance from sophomore Mike McDonough (East Hampton, Conn./Stetson Univ.), before the Skyhawks cruised to a 14-0 shutout in the nightcap.

Sophomore Matt Beaulieu (Littleton,Mass./Lawrence Academy) pitched 5.1 effective innings for the Purple Knights in the nightcap, and also helped the visitors tie the game in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly. Sophomore Tim Pilczak (Cohasset, Mass./Kents Hill School) led the Purple Knights offensively, as he belted a home run in each contest.     COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College baseball team (6-14) won in dramatic fashion on Wednesday, rallying past Southern New Hampshire University, 12-11, at Doc Jacobs Field. The Purple Knights scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the score at 11-all, and earned the win in the ninth inning on a bases loaded walk. Freshman Pete Estes (Bennington, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) earned the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
  • Baseball Exacts Revenge On Middlebury, 7-6

    MIDDLEBURY, Vt.- The Saint Michael's College baseball team (5-14) avenged a loss less than a week ago, 9-5, to Middlebury with a 7-6 victory Tuesday on Forbes Field. The Purple Knights jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Middlebury battled back to tie the game at six before the Purple Knights won it with a run in the ninth. Leading 1-0, Saint Michael's plated three runs on three hits in the second inning to take a 4-0 advantage. A two-run triple to right center by sophomore Matt Beaulieu (Littleton, Mass./Lawrence Acad.) sparked the inning for the Purple Knights. Saint Michael's added a pair in the fifth with an RBI single by Beaulieu and a SAC fly from freshman Ben Yodzio (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) to make it a 6-0 game.

Senior John Kunkel (Loudonville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) belted a two-run home run for the Purple Knights in the opener.
