Three dozen student-athletes complete study-abroad experiences in 2015-16

COLCHESTER, Vt. - A large contingent of Saint Michael's College students who have studied away from campus during the 2015-16 school year and this summer are also Purple Knight student-athletes, as 26 among the 136 who took advantage of the opportunity through the College's Study Abroad Office donned Purple and Gold during the academic year.

Nine more have gained experience through classes that have taken summer learning to different corners of the globe: "Social Development & Environment" (Brazil), "Shakespeare in Performance" (England) and "Culture & Society in Medieval Burgundy" (France). Men's soccer rising senior Liam Mahoney (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Renaissance School) is also currently among those on a Saint Michael's Mobilization of Volunteer Efforts (MOVE) service trip to Kolkata, India. 2015-16 Study-Abroad Student-Athletes

Women's Basketball

  • Rising sophomore Samantha Delaney (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) - France class (summer) - averaged 7.4 points and 6.3 rebounds as the only Purple Knight to start all 26 games. Posted 34 blocks, second-highest rejection total ever by Saint Michael's first-year. France blog

Men's Cross Country

  • Rising senior Bryce Turner (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) - Copenhagen, Denmark (spring) - competed in six races, taking team's eighth position during his last two meets

Women's Cross Country

  • Rising senior Hallie Bergwall (Lebanon, N.H./Lebanon), also Nordic skiing - Perth, Australia (spring) - competed at six meets, taking 48th during Vermont Intercollegiate Championship. Skied in eight events during winter before leaving mid-season to study abroad
  • Rising senior Alison Bourgeois (Georgia, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) - Wellington, New Zealand (spring) - competed at all seven races, scoring during the final three. Team's sixth finisher at Northeast-10 Conference Championship and NCAA East Regional Championship
  • Rising senior Catie Corrigan (Canajoharie, N.Y./Canajoharie Central School), also Nordic skiing - Limerick, Ireland (fall and spring) - spent entire 2015-16 school year studying abroad
  • May graduate Elizabeth Cubberley (Acworth, N.H./Fall Mountain Regional), also Nordic skiing - Copenhagen, Denmark (fall) - missed cross country season before scoring in all 11 Nordic skiing events, taking the Purple Knights' second scoring spot in three individual races
  • Rising senior Kristine McLarney (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic) - Athens, Greece (spring) - competed in five races, including 56th-place finish during Vermont Intercollegiate Championship
  • Rising senior Julia Snyder (Fairfax, Vt./BFA-Fairfax), also Nordic skiing - Copenhagen, Denmark (fall) - missed cross country season before competing in all 11 events during Nordic skiing season
  • Rising senior Katrina Wiesner (Bow, N.H./Bow), also women's swimming & diving - Copenhagen, Denmark (spring) - ran six races, taking team's ninth position at Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Did not compete in any events for swimming & diving team
  • Rising junior Roxy Withers (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) - France class (summer) - scorer during all seven races in debut season of college running, netting fourth-place points five times. France blog

Field Hockey

  • Rising senior Carolyn Avery (Lexington, Mass./Lexington), also women's ice hockey - Brazil class (summer) - tied for team lead in game-winning goals (2) while tying for second in assists (4) and taking third in both goals (7) and points (18). Men's Ice Hockey

  • Rising senior Josh Dickman (Kapaa, Hawaii/Saint Paul's School) - Byron Bay, Australia (fall) - saw time in three games on a forward line upon mid-season return

  • Rising senior Sarah Bagley (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle), also softball - Paris, France (summer) - recorded two goals and three assists while appearing in all 27 games. On the diamond, picked up two hits, three runs and four sacrifice hits as a reserve outfielder
  • Rising senior Tori Hubbard (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) - Brazil class (summer) - one goal in 26 games, which stood as game-winner against Plymouth State University on Nov. 6. Brazil trip Facebook page
  • Rising junior Katherine O'Brien (East Sandwich, Mass./Tilton School) - London, England (summer) - one goal and three assists in 24 games

Men's Lacrosse

  • May graduate Jamie McGill (Needham, Mass./Needham) - Sydney, Australia (fall) - tied for third on team in goals (12) while adding two assists, 13 ground balls and four caused turnovers out of the midfield
  • Rising senior Taylor Wallace (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) - Galway, Ireland (fall) - recorded 10 goals, three assists and five caused turnovers while finishing second on the team with 33 ground balls. Earned a spot on the Ireland National Lacrosse Team while studying there and will compete at European Championship in July and August

Women's Lacrosse

  • Rising junior Micalea Leaska (Somers, Conn./Somers) - Brazil class (summer) - recorded 12 ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls in 15 games out of the midfield, including four starts. Brazil trip Facebook page
  • Rising senior Paige MacKinnon (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) - Copenhagen, Denmark (fall) - picked up one ground ball and one draw control during season opener before suffering season-ending injury

  • Rising senior Parker Beaupré (Meriden, N.H./Kimball Union Academy) - Buenos Aires, Argentina (spring) - one goal and one assist in 16 games, including 11 starts

  • Rising senior Agi Chretien (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) - Salzburg, Austria (spring) - one assist in 12 games on defense, including seven starts
  • Rising senior Allegra DiCesare (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) - Florence, Italy (spring) - one assist in 13 games, three of which she started
  • Rising senior Alana Houlihan (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) - Prague, Czech Republic (spring) - 16 appearances as a midfielder/back, including 10 starting assignments
  • Rising senior Alyssa Keeler (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) - Barcelona, Spain (spring) - two goals and two assists during 16 contests, five of which were as a starter

Women's Swimming & Diving

  • Rising sophomore Patty Kohn (Weston, Conn./Greenwich) - England class (summer) - team highs of 22 overall and nine relay wins, and tied for first with 13 solo victories. Set 1,000-yard freestyle school record. England blog
  • Rising senior Lindsay McNall (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) - Dubrovnik, Croatia (spring) - tied for first on team with 13 individual event wins while taking second in overall (20) and relay (7) triumphs despite missing final two meets to study abroad

  • Rising senior Hayden Steward (Hamilton, Mass./Pingree School) - Prague, Czech Republic (fall) - won pair of matches at No. 4 singles while also claiming a triumph in the No. 1 doubles position

Women's Tennis

  • Rising senior Nicole Kellogg (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) - Los Angeles (spring) - went 5-5 in doubles play, including 4-3 at the No. 1 spot, while earning pair of wins at No. 2 singles
  • Rising senior Colleen O'Keefe (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) - England class (summer) - went 10-9 overall, going 6-4 in doubles play (4-4 at No. 3) and 4-5 in singles (3-4 at No. 4). England blog

  • Rising senior Megan Mulvaney (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) - Perugia, Italy (spring) - second on the team in attack percentage (.204) and blocks (50) while notching 132 kills from her position as a right-side hitter
  • Rising senior Tess Saburn (Basking Ridge, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) - Voyage to the Caribbean (spring) - appeared in four matches, dropping six kills with five digs across five sets
