COLCHESTER, Vt. - Pies to the face will aid a good cause for the third straight year at Saint Michael's College this weekend, as Hope Happens Here (HHH) is hosting its first Pie a Purple Knight fundraiser on Saturday at halftime of the 11 a.m. women's lacrosse game at Duffy Field. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) ran a Pie Your Professor fundraiser the last two years, and members of the organization will continue to help HHH with the event.
By making donations that will benefit HHH, Saint Michael's community members can determine which of their favorite College representatives will be "pied" in the face at halftime: junior Matt Bonds, men's basketball captain; Abigail Keough, athletic trainer; Dave Landers, instructor of psychology and gender studies, and Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR); senior Shannon McQueen, Student Association president; and Jon Milazzo, coordinator of athletic equipment and game operations. HHH representatives will have donation jars in Alliot Student Center between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. every day this week through which community members can cast their votes for who will be "pied". Milazzo is participating in his third straight pieing after being the high vote getter each of the past two years.
A new organization under the direction of men's ice hockey juniors Danny Divis and Justin McKenzie, HHH aims to promote mental wellness among college students, in particular student-athletes. The group has held awareness-raising events at various athletic contests this year and at nearby Enosburg Falls High School, and will also be on hand to raise awareness about mental health at the lacrosse doubleheader on Saturday. After the women play at 11 a.m., the men follow at 2 p.m. Each teams' seniors will also be honored prior to their respective contests.
