The expression "quiet confidence" is the epitome of Nick Nelson. Nelson has always been a strong, athletic asset to our team, but now more than ever, he is showing that he has what it takes to be one of the elite players in the league. In a double header vs. LIU Post and Caldwell College, Nelson had four hits, scored four runs, had five RBIs, and walked three times. Along with being an offensive machine, Nelson played a solid right field defensively. Nelson is really coming into his own and is one of the most well-rounded players on our squad. He respects his teammates and the integrity of the game. You won't catch Nelson participating in gaudy and obnoxious celebrations, regardless of how well he is playing. He just goes about his business, giving 110 percent effort on every play. That's what every team looks for in a player. Nelson was lauded with a number of honors after his impressive first week of play, including NE-10 Player of the Week and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Hitter of the Week.
"It seemed like every time Nick got up something positive happened," said junior captain Alex Tice about Nelson's performance on the team's Spring Break trip to Florida. "When we have guys on base we know he can get them in. He's worked hard all off-season and we're all seeing the results."
