COLCHESTER, Vt. – Natalie Elvidge ’11 (Newton, N.J./Newton), a stellar four-year field hockey scholar-athlete at Saint Michael’s College, has been named the College’s sports information intern for the 2011-12 school year, it was announced today. Elvidge will serve as the College’s seventh sports information intern since the position was created in the summer of 2005.
Elvidge will assist with all public and media relations facets for the College’s 21 NCAA Division II intercollegiate varsity sports programs. She will work alongside the College’s sports information director in many media relations initiatives, and also aid in the College’s social media and athletics marketing endeavors. Elvidge is expected to begin her sports information duties with Saint Michael’s on August 22, and will complete her nine-month internship in May 2012.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to be Saint Michael’s Sports Information Intern for the 2011-12 academic year, and I’m looking forward to learn and be challenged in this new position,” said Elvidge. “I had a wonderful experience at Saint Michael’s as both a student and an athlete, and I’m thrilled to be a part of such a well-established athletics department.”
Elvidge graduated magna cum laude from Saint Michael’s in December with a bachelor of arts degree in English, compiling a cumulative 3.789 Grade Point Average. While at Saint Michael’s, Elvidge was a four-year member of the Purple Knights’ field hockey program, playing in 55 career contests as a midfielder. She started all 18 games as a senior, and finished second on the squad in goals and points last fall.
Off the field, Elvidge garnered many academic accolades during her undergraduate experience. She was named the College’s Roger F. Keleher ’15 Award winner in May, an honor presented annually to the outstanding male and female scholar-athletes in the College’s graduating class. Elvidge also was named to four National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association National Academic teams, and earned a spot on the Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic Team as a senior captain. She also is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Epsilon Sigma national honor societies, and is a Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges pick.
Elvidge, a member of Saint Michael’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2009-10, graduated from Saint Michael’s early so that she could complete a study abroad experience at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand this past spring. Elvidge is currently in New Zealand, spending two months working for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF). She also volunteered for Special Olympics Vermont from October 2010-January 2011, assisting in the organization and planning of significant fundraising events, such as the Penguin Plunge and Ride for a Reason.
Active in community service, Elvidge also was highly involved as an undergraduate in the College’s Mobilization Of Volunteer Efforts (MOVE) program, participating on extended service trips to Florida and Texas. She also was a member of Saint Michael’s Best Buddies program, and interned at the Housing Resource Center in Burlington, Vt. in 2009.
