COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is hosting its fifth annual 5K fun run and walk on Saturday to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Vermont. The event, which begins and ends at the 300s Field, kicks off at 10 a.m. and will take participants through a tour of campus.
Members of the local community and the Saint Michael's community alike are invited to sign up for the event, with entry fees $5 per person, which includes a commemorative bracelet. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m. on the day of the race near the start line. Only cash or checks will be accepted. The start and finish line will be on the 300s Field, which is located between the Doc Jacobs Field Complex and the Tarrant Recreation Center/Ross Sports Center. Local community members have the option of submitting a completed registration form, which can be found here, to SAAC adviser Shannon Bollhardt, at email@example.com.
Since 2003, NCAA Division II has been a national sponsor of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, raising more than $5.3 million for the global charity, which grants wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Through the last four 5K fun run and walk events, SAAC raised more than $2,500 for Make-A-Wish. Just this school year alone, SAAC has fundraised for Make-A-Wish through hosting a dodgeball tournament, supported active military, taught sports skills to youths at Woodside Juvenile Rehabilitation Center, taken part in Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and hosted a Spread The Word to End The Word function.
