MANCHESTER, N.H. - Saint Michael's College women's cross country senior Chloe Boutelle (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) won for the fourth time in her last seven races during the season-opening Shacklette Invitational on Saturday at Saint Anselm College. In a field heavy with Northeast-10 Conference counterparts, the Purple Knight women were fourth among eight schools with 88 points, and the men sixth out of nine with 185. Merrimack College (38) and nationally-ranked Stonehill College (62) won the men's and women's meets, respectively.
In her first race since competing at last year's NCAA Championship, Boutelle's time of 18:51 was the best among 124 harriers in the 5K race, and 15 seconds ahead of the runner up from Stonehill, which is ranked 22nd in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll. Three more seniors filled out the Purple Knights' top four: Lindy Heffernan (Sutton Mills, N.H./Kearsarge Regional) was 13th in 19:52, Colleen Gilliatt (Grantham, N.H./Lebanon) placed 16th at 20:04, and Allie Gratton (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) took 22nd at 20:23. In her college debut, sophomore Molly Roush (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton Central School) nabbed 36th.
On the men's side, senior Peter McKenna (Cohasset, Mass./Brooks School) paced the Purple and Gold by crossing the finish line of the 8K competition in 21st at 28:34. Classmate Alex Gilgore (Scotia, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville Senior) was 35th in 29:20, and sophomore Torin La Liberte (Madison, N.H./Kennett) placed 44th in 30:14. Classmates Cody Putnam (Alburgh, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) and Tyler Colbert (Byfield, Mass./Triton Regional/UMass Boston) rounded out their team's top five in 63rd and 65th, respectively. The race was Colbert's first since transferring in.
The Purple Knights break until Sept. 20, when they return to New Hampshire for the NCAA East Regional Preview Meet, which will be run at Mine Falls Park in Nashua.
