Naranja earns second NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll accolade in three weeks

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's College women's cross country sophomore Gabrielle Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine/Fort Kent Community) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending on Sunday, Oct. 2. It marked her second honor roll nod in three weeks.

On Saturday, Naranja became the second Saint Michael's woman to ever win the Vermont Intercollegiate Championship, besting 11 runners from defending Division III national champion Middlebury College, which is currently ranked first in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll. Naranja fended off two Panthers at the finish line to record a 5K PR time of 19:14 despite the race being run in rainy, cold and muddy conditions. Saint Michael's finished second in the nine-team meet to Middlebury.

Naranja has now been the top Saint Michael's finisher at all nine of her career races. Her time at the state meet was 18 seconds faster than her best previous showing this fall despite the inclement weather.

Both the Purple Knight men's and women's cross country teams head to Boston's Franklin Park on Saturday for the New England Championship, which pits Division I, II and III squads against each other.
