NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Saint Michael's College women's volleyball team ended its season with a 3-0 (25-7, 25-16, 25-15) loss to 2017 NCAA Tournament qualifier Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday during Northeast-10 Conference play at Pelz Gymnasium.

THE ACTION

  • Barton and Ratte notched back-to-back kills during a tying 3-0 run early in the first set before Southern Connecticut State embarked on an 11-0 run, keyed by four Fisher aces, to make it 14-3 en route to pulling away.
  • Saint Michael's flipped a 7-4 deficit into a four-point lead in the second set behind a 7-0 stretch that featured two aces by Fornabia and one kill apiece from Barton, Konow and sophomore Molly Clarke (Barkhamsted, Conn./Northwestern Regional). Fisher's kill tied the score at 13 apiece, but Barton dropped a kill before an attack error made it 15-13 in favor of the visitors. However, junior Jennifer Dawson posted four aces in an 11-0 response.
  • Fornabia's kill provided the Purple Knights a 2-1 edge in set No. 3 before she and Gallagher combined on a block to keep their team within 7-4. Down only 13-9, Saint Michael's yielded the next seven points to trail by 11. Back-to-back Fornabia aces trimmed the deficit to 22-15, but the Owls netted the final three points.
