COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College volleyball team (5-10, 1-7 Northeast-10 Conference) dropped its fifth straight match on Saturday afternoon, falling to league-leading Adelphi University, 3-1 (16-25, 12-25, 26-24, 16-25) at the Ross Sports Center.
For Adelphi (14-6, 5-0 NE-10), junior Hilary Pavels (North Woodmere, N.Y.) and sophomore Patawe Simms (East Patchogue, N.Y.) recorded a team-high 15 kills apiece. Sophomore Erika Loomer (Gill, Mass.) handed out 26 assists, with junior Heather Mau (Honolulu, Hawaii) adding 21 assists, and Pavels chipped in with a team-best 13 digs.
For Saint Michael's, junior Lindsey Frazier (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) notched a match-high 16 kills. Freshman Maggie Zuhlke (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) tallied a match-best 28 assists, while senior Kelly Garthwait (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) posted 13 digs.
After dropping the first two sets, the host Purple Knights staved off three match points in game #3, as Saint Michael's scored the final five points of the set to erase a 24-21 deficit. The visiting Panthers, however, erased an early deficit in the fourth set to seal the match.
Saint Michael's returns to action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. match at conference-rival Merrimack College. Adelphi also returns to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m., as the Panthers host league-foe Pace University.
