Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision To UMass Lowell

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College volleyball team (3-3, 0-2 Northeast-10 Conference) suffered a 3-1 loss to the University of Massachusetts Lowell (7-4, 2-0 NE-10) in league action on Wednesday at the Ross Sports Center (25-17, 25-14, 20-25, 25-13).

For UMass Lowell, junior Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, Calif.) tallied a team-best 14 kills and added four service aces. Classmate Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, Mass.) added 12 kills and three solo blocks, while senior Nichole Rondeau (Dracut, Mass.) handed out 36 assists.

For Saint Michael's, junior Lindsey Frazier (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) recorded a match-best 16 kills. Freshman Katie Walsh (North Kingstown, R.I./Prout School) tallied a team-high 10 digs, while classmate Maggie Zuhlke (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) notched a match-high 38 assists.

After the visiting River Hawks recorded relatively easy wins in the first two games, Saint Michael's rallied in the third set, as the Purple Knights raced out to a 14-6 lead and hung on to cut their deficit to 2-1. However, UMass Lowell responded in the fourth game, as the visitors scored nine of the set's first 11 points and never trailed in the final set.

Saint Michael's returns to action on Friday, as the Purple Knights visit in-state rival Middlebury College for a 7 p.m. contest. Saint Michael's next home match is on Tuesday against league-rival Franklin Pierce University at 7 p.m.
